What's new on the NAGRP animal genome web site (#1, 2026)
o ANNOUNCING THE ANIMAL QTLdb RELEASE 58:
(Dec 29, 2025): A sum of 14,351 new QTL/associations have been curated into
the database. (New additions less obsolete/retracted ones: Cattle: 12,986;
Chicken: 0; Goat: 80; Horse: 54; Pig: 932; Sheep: 299; Rainbow trout: 0 --
Net increase: 14,351). To date, the current total number of QTL in the
database: 310,879 [Breakdown by species -- Cattle: 207,081 (on 560 traits);
Chicken: 29,328 (on 243 traits); Goat: 2,793 (on 90 traits); Horse: 2,545
(on 71 traits); Pig: 58,344 (on 409 traits); Sheep: 8,587 (on 185 traits);
Rainbow trout: 2,201 (on 35 traits)] curated from 3,015 publications.
In addition, data updates on 17 QTL/SNP associations, 94 base traits
were made, linking to 3,987 previously released data.
Database developments notes:
(1) As genome assemblies (Ensembl) and SNP mappings (dbSNP) continue to
improve, older genome builds are becoming outdated, reflected by a gradual
decline in the number of SNPs mapped to them over time. As of the Ensembl
release 115 and dbSNP release RS Release 8, we plan to decommission the
support of the following genome builds in the next data release: BTAU4
(cattle); GG4 (chicken); SS10 (pig); OAR3 (sheep); OM1_0 and OM1_1 (rainbow
trout). If you have any concerns about this plan, please discuss with us
directly.
(2) We have added a new sheep genome build (OAR_rambo3) for QTL/association
data liftover.

o ANNOUNCING THE ANIMAL CorrDB RELEASE 26:
(Dec 30, 2025): A sum of 1,977 new correlations [Breakdown by species --
Cattle: 713; Chicken: 221; Horse: 6; Sheep: 917; Goat: 120] and a sum of 342
new heritability data [Breakdown by species -- Pig: 8; Cattle: 137; Chicken:
24; Horse: 3; Sheep: 154; Goat: 16] have been curated into the CorrDB. To
date, the total number of correlation data in the database: 48,539
[Breakdown by species -- Cattle: 17,933 (on 381 traits, 528 trait
variants); Chicken: 5,670 (on 119 traits, 317 trait variants); Horse: 230
(on 31 traits, 6 trait variants); Pig: 13,045 (on 240 traits, 358 trait
variants); Sheep: 7,538 (on 136 traits, 493 trait variants); Goat: 4,123
(on 93 traits, 190 trait variants)], and total heritability data: 8,213
[Breakdown by species -- Cattle: 3,173 (on 444 traits, 546 trait variants);
Chicken: 885 (on 174 traits, 282 trait variants); Horse: 145 (on 58 traits,
7 trait variants); Pig: 2,107 (on 287 traits, 420 trait variants); Sheep:
1,364 (on 176 traits, 478 trait variants); Goat: 539 (on 88 traits, 156
trait variants)] curated from 841 publications.
In addition, a number of trait data updates were made that affected 57
correlations and 62 heritability data in all 6 species.
Database development notes:
The CorrDB data‑curation pipeline was originally designed with the
assumption that each data report pertains to a single species. To handle
the uncommon cases where a publication includes data on multiple species,
we have introduced optional exceptions that allow data entry on a species
different from the current one by the same (species) curator.

o ONTOLOGY DEVELOPMENTS
(1) Eight (8) Vertebrate Trait (VT) Ontology data releases were made with
updates on synonyms, external resource references (xref), and/or other
changes along with addition of 63 new terms. The current term count is
3,930.

(2) Two (2) Livestock Breed Ontology (LBO) data releases were made. The
current version contains a total of 1,135 breeds.

(3) The Clinical Measurement Ontology (CMO) data was updated with 4,042
terms from Bioportal to the local QTLdb/CorrDB curation environment and for
the local ontology hierarchy browsers and viewers.

o MISCELLANEOUS
(1)The Animal Genome Community Directory (formerly known/developed as the
"AnGen Directory") has been renamed to the “Animal Genome Research
Community (AGRC) Directory”. This change reflects the fact that in addition
to managing AnGenMap listserv subscriptions, the directory now serves as an
independent central authentication tool for multiple web services,
including FAANG and NRSP8 memberships, among others on AnimalGenome.ORG
that require user authentication.
URL: https://www.animalgenome.org/community/agrc
(2) A Long URL Shortener tool was created at AnimalGenome.ORG as a free
service for AGRC members. This is to help the community members when other
free services become less available (such as tinyurl.com, bitly.com). The
tool is easily accessible by AGRC members when logged in to their
directory [Find “URL Shortener” on your AGRC login panel.]
(3) The AnGenMap Frequently Asked Questions has been updated with a new
item detailing a minor update to the listserv posting policy addressing
concerns for educational short courses, workshops, and summer schools that
include a profit component, given our general policy that no commercial
posts are permitted on the listserv. See the FAQ for details.
